General timeframes
A fertility consultation is often suggested after 12 months of regular unprotected intercourse when the female partner is under 35, or after 6 months when she is over 35.
Reasons to seek advice sooner
Earlier review may be appropriate for irregular or absent periods, known endometriosis, previous pelvic surgery, recurrent pregnancy loss, male reproductive concerns or treatment that may affect fertility.
Why both partners matter
Fertility is a shared outcome. A couple-based evaluation can reduce delay and help avoid focusing on only one partner.
What to bring
Previous test results, ultrasound reports, prescriptions, operative records and details of earlier fertility treatment can make the first consultation more useful.
