IUI is generally less invasive than IVF. Ovulation may be natural or supported with medication, followed by monitoring and laboratory preparation of the semen sample before insemination.
Important: A specialist should determine whether this pathway is appropriate after reviewing your history and investigations.
It may be discussed when
At least one fallopian tube appears open
Sperm findings are suitable for an IUI attempt
Ovulation timing can be identified or supported
The couple’s age, diagnosis and treatment history make IUI reasonable
TYPICAL PATHWAY
What the process may involve.
01 · Assessment
Tubal, ovulatory and semen factors are reviewed.
02 · Cycle monitoring
Ovulation is tracked naturally or with medication and ultrasound.
03 · Sperm preparation
The sample is processed to concentrate suitable motile sperm.
04 · Insemination & follow-up
Prepared sperm is placed in the uterus and a pregnancy test is planned later.
What patients should know
IUI is not suitable for every diagnosis. The likelihood of success and the number of attempts worth considering should be discussed before treatment.
